Monument Counter (Anıt Sayaç) is a digital monument created by Zeren Göktan for women who have lost their lives to male violence in Turkey. In 2013, Aslı Serin and Birhan Keskin wrote a collaborative poem bearing the name of this digital monument and published it on the website of 160. Kilometre. To date, the poem has reached more than 20,000 readers. For Anıt Sayaç, Meltem Şahin presented a live performance as part of Performistanbul’s "Stay LIVE at Home" series and in collaboration with Border_less: she created drawings while listening to audio recordings of Birhan Keskin and Aslı Serin reading the poem for an hour and a half. Anıt Sayaç is now available at 160. Kilometre with Meltem Şahin’s drawings and design.
“Meltem Şahin touched this monumental poem exactly as I had imagined; paintings emerged that integrate with nature and the cosmos, born from the sorrow of womanhood. As I look at them, all our shared vulnerability becomes incarnate, gains muscle, re-embodies, and grows stronger.” — Elvin Eroğlu
